About Asher Benrubi "Smash" __________________________ Smash

For over 35 years as an entertainer and show business entrepreneur, Smash has not only performed and flourished as an on-stage talent, but also off-stage in professional ventures that involved his knack for creativity and forward thinking. In that time, he's also developed and honed his skills as a manager, salesman, agent and promoter, and--in his time--he has also owned and managed an Indianapolis-based talent agency and an independent record label that was purchased by Mercury Records.

One night in 1977, he was invited to be a guest DJ on Indianapolis' top rock station, WNAP. Two days later, he was offered an on-air shift. He left his band, talent agency, and record company to perform on a new stage...the radio. Using the names Adam Smasher and The Smash, he created and developed an award-winning style and niche for his way of communicating and entertaining on the air.

The radio formats that he's worked include AOR (Album Oriented Rock), CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio), Oldies, and Superhits with 103.3 KLOU-FM. He has spent 25 years as a broadcaster at well-respected and highly acclaimed stations like WNAP in Indianapolis, DC 101 in the nation's capital, and KSHE 95 along with New Country KIX 106 in St. Louis. In Phoenix at KXEG, he hosted a Christian talk/music program, and at KMYL (The Music of Your Life), he was utilized as an on-air/production talent and was Operations Assistant. In October of 1997, he moved back to St. Louis to host afternoons at Classic Rock KSD-FM. When it changed to The New Mix 93.7, he anchored the morning show. Then, under Clear Channel Communications ownership, he moved to afternoons at sister station 103.3 KLOU, and then set his alarm ahead 8 hours to do The Smash and Karen Morning Show until January of 2004. You can now hear Smash with Jamie Allman weekday mornings on 97.1 FM Talk Radio.

On television, he has worked as a local news entertainment reporter. He has performed in various roles and functions as a TV talent, writer, editor, director and producer. In the late '80s, he was a video jock for MTV. Along with radio, he is presently employed as an entertainment reporter for FOX 2 News with "Smash Around Town" that airs Thursday nights, among other regular TV appearances.

As a show business entrepreneur, he's provided entertainment-based consultation along with multimedia promotional ideas, products, and creativity to clients who range from radio personalities to musical artists, to advertising agencies, to production houses, to media programmers. Having been blessed with a "unique" voice, he has been employed commercially across America by clients such as International Harvester, Arby's, General Mills, Blockbuster, Levi's, and GMC trucks. Along with voice work for various local and regional accounts, he's been utilized as the signature ID voice for a number of radio stations.

It all started for him in October 1967 as lead singer of his high school garage band "Frenchie and the Oui-Ouis". Now, more than 35 years later, he's been blessed with being able to continue to build a career in the workplace that he enjoys...the entertainment business!
