About Jim Dandy's The Jim Dandy's was formed in 1975 by banjo player George Votaw. The band became popular immediately because of its unique repertoire of classic Dixieland tunes, patriotic songs, marches, college fight songs, polkas, waltzes and famous American standards from the 1920's and 30's. Equally important was the happy, energetic style with which the band performed these songs. To put it simply, the band made everyone happy and that is what music is all about. The Jim Dandy's have performed everywhere in St. Louis. Just a brief list would include: all the major hotels, parks, shopping centers and country clubs; the Arch, the Zoo, the Science Center, Busch Stadium, the Convention Center, the Transportation Museum, and the Old Courthouse. Trumpeter Robert Souza joined the band in 1988. He became the leader after the passing of George Votaw in April, 2001. Robert has insisted upon maintaining the integrity of the band. "It has always been very important to me to continue what George did for so many years- to provide the best music for all the people in St. Louis. We want people to have a good time and for them to remember that the Jim Dandys gave them a good performance". Jim Dandy's MP3s |
