About Groovethang
How good a tribute band do you have to be to open for a band to which you pay tribute? You have to be the best and that is why Groovethang opened for Steely Dan at UMB Bank Pavilion in '06 doing Steely Dan tunes. Talk about chutzpah! It is also this spot-on, can't believe your ears playing that has made Groovethang the most sought after tribute band in the country. There are many, many bands that perform tributes to The Beatles, The Eagles, and The Grateful Dead and on and on. Most of these bands either get the music right or the vocals right, but rarely both at the same time. Groovethang is a six-piece ensemble of "in your face" rockers that creates not only faithful reproductions of Steely Dan, but also Earth Wind & Fire, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Al Green the Bee Gees and many others. From Steely Dan's percussion and guitar blasting "My Old School" to Earth Wind and Fire's harmony driven "September" to Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" to Carlos Santana's Latin movin' and groovin'"Smooth" to Kool and the Gang's "Get Down on It" to the moving Al Green classic "Let's Stay Together" Groovethang never misses a note, instrumentally or vocally. If you close your eyes and let your ears take over you'll swear that Maurice White, Donald Fagan, Michael McDonald or Lionel Richie were singing, live and in person. Groovethang rises above the mundane, the average, and the ho-hum tribute bands because they pay homage to a variety of bands, not just a single group. The reproductive quality both musically and vocally is mind-blowing. Groovethang gets you dancin' in the streets, out of your seats and wall to-wall on the dance floor. Groovethang is for anyone who came up through the '70's and early '80's and remembers what it's like to sing and dance to "Peg", "Black Cow", "Blackwater," "September" "25 or 6 to 4" and all the rest of the best. Remember the days when brass and percussion ruled the airways and you could not stop toe tapping to the funkster's favorite "Pick up the Pieces" by the Average White Band. As Stevie Wonder said, "I wish those days would come back, again." Well they have thanks to the remarkable instrumental skills of Groovethang. Groovethang is comprised of Justin Stewart, lead vocalist and keyboardist who has had an appreciation and love of R&B that has driven him to be the best vocal impersonator in the business. Along with Mark Crowell on guitar and vocals, Larry Kornfeld on bass, Jamie Brauner on drums and vocals, Chad Evans on saxophone and Stu Ottolini on trombone and percussion, they produce one of the tightest bands in the business. Each is a virtuoso performer dedicated to their craft and it comes through to the packed houses they play all over the nation. Recreating Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers and others to the scrutinizing satisfaction of the audience demands production qualities equal to the originals. Get it right, get it tight and make a memorable night! When the best want the best they call on Groovethang. Groovethang Song List |
